Board Care Instructions

Keep your Red Tail Board Looking & Performing Its Best

Our cutting boards are handcrafted to last — but like any premium tool, proper care is essential. Follow these guidelines to maintain the beauty and durability of your board for years to come.

Cleaning

  1. Wipe down your board with a damp cloth after each use.
  2. For deeper cleaning, hand-wash with mild soap and warm water.
  3. Never soak your board or put it in the dishwasher — water damage and warping will occur.

Oiling

  1. To keep your board hydrated and prevent cracking, apply food-safe mineral oil regularly.
  2. Oil when the board looks dry or feels rough (usually every 2–4 weeks, depending on use).
  3. Apply a generous coat of oil, let it soak in overnight, and wipe off excess with a clean cloth.

Optional Wax Finish

  1. For added protection, you can apply a board wax or conditioner after oiling.
  2. This helps repel moisture and adds a soft sheen.

Long-Term Maintenance

  1. Minor knife marks and surface wear can be sanded with 220–320 grit sandpaper.
  2. After sanding, always clean and reapply oil before use.

Do Not

  1. Use harsh chemicals or bleach
  2. Submerge in water or run through the dishwasher
  3. Store it while wet — always let it dry upright or on its side
